Factors that Determine the Cost of Dental Implants

There are many factors that affect the overall cost of dental implants treatment. The first factor that affects the cost is the type or make of dental implant. There are many different makes of dental implants available and almost all of them are titanium made. There are branded ones which are expensive and non-branded ones which are not very expensive.

The success rate of branded and non-branded implants does not offer more or less different results. It is just up to the preference of the dental surgeon as to what he or she may opt when it comes to the using of dental implants, be it the company which is supplying the parts or the user friendliness of the dentists using the implants which might be based on the previous experience. Another factor that affects the cost of the dental implant procedure is the number of implants. If the procedure involves complex bone augmentation surgery, such types of operations are performed by the specialist dentists.

The complexity of the procedure also affects the cost of the implant surgery. For example: If the jaw line bone is quite thin, then surgical procedures are required to increase the volume of the bone so as to accommodate the implant. Highly technical surgical procedures like sinus graft and nerve repositioning ECT are performed by the specialist surgeons.

Bone grafting procedures involve use of synthetic or natural material which is used to augment deficient jaw bone where the implants have to be placed. They are charged quantity wise and also cost more. Some times complex procedures like bone harvesting has to be done from patients own body for the requirement of bone for augmentation. This complex procedure is also performed by the specialists and cost much higher than normal surgery. The cost of the type of artificial crown fitted on the implant also affects the cost of the surgery. Generally, procera crowns are more costly than porcelain fused or metal crowns. The type of abutment used during the procedure also affects the cost of the surgery. Straight conventional abutments cost less than angulated, esthetic or zirconium abutments. Even the type of anesthetic procedure, that is, general or local also determines the cost of the surgery. Local anesthesia procedures are less expensive than general anesthesia. General anesthesia procedures are performed in hospitals where the patients have to be admitted and an expert anesthetist performs the anesthetic procedure.

Any minor surgery performed after the placement of the implants as a corrective procedure may also cost more and brings added expenses. All the above mentioned factors determine the cost of the dental implant procedure. Though there might be other factors too, but these ones are the most common ones. Other cosmetic dentistry procedures may cost variedly depending on the complexity of the surgery and charges of the dentist. A person can take consultation from 2 to 3 dentists so as to get an idea about the cost of the dental implants and complexity involved. One can look around on the internet so as to know about the cost of the dental procedures.
